TE PUKE NOTES.

PROPOSED PURCHASE OF FOOTBALL GROUND. At the meeting of the Te Puke Rugby Union this week the following letter from the New Zealand Rugby Union to the Bay of Plenty Union was read its connection with an application from the Te Puke Rugby Union for a loan to purchase football grounds: "Replying to your letter of the Mh inst.. with regard to the suggested loan to the T*’ Puke subUaion, my Committee has gone further into this matter, and I Slave to inform yon that at present we have no money available for loans, and furthermore it is thought that a loan of £ir>u<i is too big a burden for this Union to take upon itself. As an alternative. it is suggested that the Question of obtaining the use of the Atuaroa Village Settlement be gone into. We find that this .Settlement, which is an area of about tie acres, is a failure as a seuelement. ami i T has been decided to close the roads and to declare the whole area a domain under the Public Parks and Domains .Act. Ihd-S. and vest it in the Te Puke Town Board, "This property is within the town boundary and. we understand, quite suitable for playing grounds, and if this could he secured by the 'Te Puke sub-Union it might be better for them than loading thenis-dves with heavy financial responsibilities in connection with the purchase of the other ground. KOPUAROA BRIDGE. Tile ne w bridge over the Kopuaroa Stream on the Long Swamp at Papamoa. rep, lacing the one recently damaged by lire, is now open for traffic, the use of the deviation not now being necessary. The new structure is a two-way bridge and -olidly built, being .1 vast improvement on she one which is replaces. All that now requires attention is thy metalling of the approaches. BOISTEROUS WEATHER. Torrential and continuous rain has been experienced throughout. the distrii t during the last few days and the ininietalb'd roads are impassable hy motorists without the use of chains. The No. Road particularly is in a very bad slate, the School bus contractor having difficulty in getting through even with the assistance of heavy chains. The contractor is contemplating writing to the Education Department, advising the Department, of his inability to carry children along the route with any degree of safety and that he will he forced to discontinue running beyond a certain point until the weather clears and road dries, the children being compelled to walk several miles in all weathers, TE lintl.Ml A PAN IT SHIELD.

Broderick, R. Parkinson;, backs. Reneta, Riiii. In view of the match to take place to-morrow, the Te Puke representatives have been strenuously training for some considerable time. Each evening during the present week every member of the team has been taking a special course of physical exercises under the guidance of Mr Lowe, whilst Mr R. McPike has been giving the forwards valuable instruction in scrum work. The match should prove an exciting and even contest as each team have a similar record of wins to its credit. On the occasion of the first friendly match played between the above teams at Matata. the game ended in a draw. Since this game the Rangitaiki team have met and defeated Tauranga and Opotiki (in Shield matches), whilst the Te Puke fifteen have had comfortable victories over the Rotorua and Galatea representatives. Supporters of both sides should see really good football to-morrow as each team possesses a fast set of backs, and forwards who are also speedy and honest battlers.
