RUGBY RULES.
CANTERBURY UNDECIDED. Christchurch, April 16. Following on a report by Mr Me Phail, chairman, on the meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union delegates, it was decided to postpone decision as to whether the Canterbury Union should apply fop a dispensation from the International Board rules.
“It seems to me that Canterbury should say that the altered rules suit us and that we will play under them,” said the .chairman. “To my mind, our football has been improved by the new rules. Mr V. L. Jensen: J think Canterbury should pull in with the rest. Mr S. F. Wilson; We will possibly be the only union in the South Island that does not revert to the old rules . ■fhe old rules wall slow down the game again,” said the Chairman. Mr A. Thomson: I have played under both rules and I far prefer New; rules. We should not impose old rules on all our players because a few senior men are called on to play representative matches.
It was decided on an cight-to-seven vote to play the old kick-into-touch rule throughout all grade games. As the voting was so close it was decided to call a meeting of delegates of the union on April 23 and submit the position to that meeting.
