LAMB AND MUTTON.
DROP IN VALUES. The prices received for lamb and mutton on the Smithfield market at the beginning of last season were below the parity of values offered in Poverty Bay, but at the opening of the present season the position was the reverse, and those who consigned their supplies were belter off than if they had sold to local buyers (says the Poverty Bay Herald). Since the first of the consignments was sold at Smithfield, however, prices have fallen cosiderably, lamb now being down by about *d per lb., while within a week the fall was from id to lid a lb. With this fall in the Smithfield values there has been a slight weakening tendency in the rates paid bv the local -buyers, and two at the Kaiti works have reduced their quotations for mutton and lamb by id per lb. Beef prices also have been lowered slitfhtlv. but to what extent is not vet known. The cattle being killed at the Kaiti works this weekbought at 37A6 per toolb,, and in the meantime little-business is doing in beef. Rates at the Taruheru works arc said to be unchanged.
