LONG FALL.
' DOWN LIFT WELL. Auckland, March 8 , A remarkable escape from serious injury was experienced by Jack Howe, aged 19 years, when he fell about 75ft down the lift well at the build,ing under construction for the T. and G. Mutual Life Assurance on the corner of Wellesley Street West and EII liott Street yesterday. Howe was removed to the Auckland hospital in ! the St. John Ambulance. He received cuts to the head, but his condi- | tion last evening was not serious. The Injured youth, who resides at Roberts Avenue, Devonport, is eraploved by the Pollard Terrazzo Works land was working on the fourth floor lof the building. He was engaged in ' marble work near the lift well and i was picking up some timber when he lost his balance and fell down the well. After hitting the sides of the well several times in his fall, Howe struck the concrete bottom of the 1 shaft heavily and lay there dazed, j The St. John Ambulance men found -urn still conscious and suffering from 'cuts to the head and shock.
