BEACH CAMPERS
NEGLECT SANITATION. Arising out of a number of complaints received by the Health Department concerning the habits of campers. Dr. Chesson, Medical Officer of Health, Auckland, said : “They are like primitive natives so far as sanitation and hygiene are concerned,” when describing the habits of some of the hundreds of launchmen, yachtsmen, and boating picnic parties who frequent the bays and beaches during the summer months. He added: “Many of the boats anchoring at. these resorts possess no sanitary arrangements. It is absolutely revolting to the people to visit the beaches after holiday makers have left them in the deplorable condition. The persons responsible for such conduct, apparently forget they are orjanmitting a breach of the Health. Act. , Dr. Ob esson added that inspectors are to be requested to maintain a t iharp watch on the sanitation an d hygiene of holiday makers, aj id he proposed to make a more - rigorous inspection of camps and ) jaefi sanitation this summer.
