PAROTO ASHORE AT WHITE ISLAND

VESSEL’S CABLE PARTS
News "as received last night that the auxiliary scow Paroto had been east ashore at White Island last night. Particulars to hand from the While Island wireless station state that during a howling southerly gale the Paroto, which nas at audio, off the island, had parted her cable at about IL3O p.m. and before anything could he done the vessel drifted on to the shore. All the crew safely landed, and so far no otic is reported injured. The Paroto left Tauranga on Monday night to load at White Island and was at anchor in Crater Bay waiting for the weather, which had been very wet. to moderate so that hading operations could be darted. (.'apt ain Hammond, Manager of tin- Northern Steamship Company at Auckland, is making inquiries as to the possibility of the vessel being towed off, but nothing can he ascertained till the seas calm to p-Tinit of an examination of the hull. The portion of the beach where the- Paroto lies is strewn with big boulders and it is thought that tin- hull may he damaged. The latest wireless advice from Whit' Island statim that the Parole is rather badly holed and cannot be floated till repairs arc effected.
