WINTER EXHIBITION

ARRANGEMENTS WELL IN HAND. A meeting of the general committee of the Winter Exhibition was held in the Borough Council Chambers last night, the Chairman, Mr Wright, presiding. Judges for Show. Mr J. Nixon, of Kingsland, wrote accepting the Committee's invitation to act as judge of the poultry division at the Show. The Secretary reported having written to a gentleman to act as judge of the dogs, but had not yet received a reply. Side Shows. Various letters were read regarding space for side shows. In most j eases the applicants intimated that it was considered the fees asked bj the Committee were too high. The matter of arranging the best terms possible was left in the Secretary's hands. Applications for Space. The Secretary reported that a number of applications for space had been made already but the Committee appointed for the purpose' had not yet completed the canvass of the town. He had interviewed the various motor car agents, and in all probability space would be required for about twelve cars. These would have to be accommodated in a marquee, as would also the poultry section. Committees at Work. The Secretary reported at length in connection with the work o various committees. It was decided to add the following additional classes to the Show schedule for professional bakers: 2 2lb tin loaves (white) 2 2lb tin loaves (brown) 2 2lb currant loaves. Collection Small Goods (not more than 10 varieties). Iced Cake (icing only to lie judged). Considerable discussion took place as to the housing of the Field Crop exhibits, and it was agreed that as far as possible the agricultural display should be in the main building. Building the Annexe. s On the motion of Mr Warner, seconded by Mr Rutter, it was resolved to authorise the Building Committee to ■ proceed with the erection of.the annexe as soon as the space required is known. Various other matters of detail were arranged, especially in regard to the procession on the opening day, which it was hoped would be up to the standard of the procession held on the railway opening day.
