Feeling a heavy object on his line he hauled in cautiously, and found that he had hooked 1 a cash box, with a woman’s handIba g attached to the handl°. The Ica sh box contained War Loan scrip, bank notes, cheques, and Ex chequer Bends worth hundreds lof pounds. The name of a Southampton woman was on the cheques. Inquiries at Southampton show that the bag and cash j box were stolen early in June when thieves broke into a shop occupied by Mrs Mutteen, of Manor Farm road. Bittern Park. The cash box was at that time in the bag, and in addition to the other articles, contained £52 in Treasury no’es and a gold Orooch. Both the cash and the bro och were taken by the thieves 1 before the box was thrown into! the water. |
