The origin of the- fire is a complete mystery, but it may have been caused by the- fusing of an electric light or in connection with, the- hot water ser vice. The building contained priceless relics of early Auckland: and purchases of Mr Nathan’s recentworld tour. Mr Nathan and family escaped in their night attire. The servants lest practically everything. The buildings and contents were insured for £15,000 in the United Office.
