POTATO TESTS

The National Institute of Agricultuial Botany is testing at Ormskirk, potatoes which have been received from many countries (says a London exchange). Australian varieties produced extraordinarily heavy crops, which were, however, too deeply coloured to 1 suit the English market. Growers hope to produce from them new varieties, combining the productiveness of the Australian potatoes, with the whiteness of the British product. The Australian potatoes did not show any sign of wart disease, though they were grown on land where the disease was rampant.
