YACHTING

Tluif.-day alTernoon last brought to a close a very successful season for ili,. Tauranga \acht aud Power Boat Club Tiic weather was not all that Uk crew would wish for. During Ihe afternoon a fresh breeze came up, then a shower of rain, and towards the end of the afternoon the wind ■died away altogether. Jit the” third-class yacht race only the Areta was on the mark at the appointed time, and was duly started. About ten .minutes afterwards the Saucy Susan arrived at the starting line,"which meant that she was hopelessly out of the race. The first-class yacht race was next in order when the Malua and Janet siarted. The breeze was fresh at the lime and they presented a pretty sight. The .Mama, which, was giving the Janet two minutes, won the race, making a total of 22 points each for the series. The second-class yacht race brought four boats to the starling line, Alice, ('harm, Wailana and Silver Link. The Alice was last away, losing Jm. 445. The other three got away fairly well together. The Alice won this race very easily, Charm being second. Wailona and Silver Link did not finish. On looking back over this season s races both in sailing and launches one cannot but commend the Yacht and Power Boat Club for the amusement provided for the boating public. During the season some splendid finishes were v iuu-ssod, thanks to the handicapping. Such a suitable harbour encourages enthusiasts who have spare time to go in for either a launch or a sailing boat. It not only gives enjoyment to the owner, but also to the general public who spend many pleasant hours during the. races. The aggregate points obtained during the season are as follows; First Class Boats. Points Mr G, Maltby's Malua 22 Mr C. Hartley’s Janet 22 Mr A. Leslie’s Rosiua 8 Mr P.
