TAURANGA BOWLING CLUB
OFFICIAL OPENING Glorious weather, a large atten dance, and a splendid green all combined in making the official opening of the Tauranga Bowline Clubs green for the comine season yesterday afternoon \ great success. At 2-n th» President, Mr F. H. Hammond m his opening speech, expressed his pleasure at seeing such a large number of visiting bowlers members, and the general pub! lie, especially the ladies, present On behalf of the Club he gave them a hearty welcome. He mentioned that the membership was increasing and hoped to see it rise to a century. He trusted the Club would maintain its traditions of the past as to its triumphs in inter Club tournaments. He called upon Mrs k Hammond to throw up the “Ijack. ” This she did in a true bowler’s fashion, amidst the applause of the players. The President then declared the green open for the season 1922-23, A very dainty afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Hammond and the members marked their appreciation by giving her and her assistants three hearty cheers. Mr A. J. Walker, who has acted as green superintendent for several seasons, and is about to leave the district, was given a presentation. The President, in making the presentation referred to the large amount of time and labour given by Mr Walker and how much the Club was indebted to him. In asking him to accept the gift with the best wishes of the members, he wished him good health and prosperity. Mr Walker, in a few remarks, thanked the Club.
