“OUSTING” THE FARMER.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Behold many days ago this scribe journeyed from a far land unto the pity ol Tanranga. Of a surety tli.e city was fair to look- upon and pleasant to abide in. 1 read of the happenings within the city wall and much of affairs of others from with out, and my eyes rested on writings which said that the rulers of the city' gathered together and held much counsel on the ruling of the city. Thus sayelh the ruler to his people; Thou shall let thy clovenhoofed cattle roam where they will even unto the market place; thou shaft let thy horses and asses roam on the highways and by-waysi within the city walls. Further, sayethi the ruler to his people: Thou shall not let thy horses or thy asses bo left within the market places oriel those who Journey from without place thei r horses Q r their asses within the market places. Thon shailt not driveth thy chariots, whichj are driven by lire, over the highways or tho by-ways of the city with much chains about their wheels. I laid aside these writings and thought of the many -ways of menj. And I thought that the city of Tauranga depended on those who lived in remote places without its walls. Why shuld not the people in the city bid welcome to their brethren who live in the lands round-about, Why do the rulers of the city wishi to tax their brethren? I am, etc., A SCRIBBLER, lauranga, Sept 25, 1922.
