A meeting was held in the Domain under the auspices of the Australian Workers Union, described vs the first of a series throughout tiie Commonwealth, to educate the public on the shearers’ dispute. One speaker declared that the Commonwealth Government removed one judge, Mr Higgins, in whom the workers had every confidence and replaced him with Mr Powers, who the great pastoral magnates felt sure would give them all they asked. Under the latters’ award one shearer just inside the Queens’and border would receive 35/ per hundred whilst a shearer a hundred yards away on the other side of the border would receive 40/. Mr Blakely, speaking at Broken Hill, urged members to hold down the present positions till the Union's •iaims were conceded. He was of opinion that the struggle would be bitter and protracted. Rec. Juno 6, 9.10 a.m. Sydney, June 6. Despite the attitude and advice of the Australian Workers Union ever the shearing trouble a general strike of shed hands is reported in some quarters as unlikely. It is Hated that the farmers and graziers are in a better position to co- • ate an#' farm co-operative teams to do the shearing than they were last year, when they resisted the reduction of the forty four hour week. The sheepowners are orgafling in firm determination to resist the mens’ demands.
