One hundred and seventy American marines Lorn Horon have arrived to protect the American legation. The British Legation guard is also being strengthened. There is little hope of averting trouble between the beligerent Chinese factions, although efforts at mediation continue A large exodus of tourists from the city is taking place. Three thousand of General Wu Pei Fu’s soldiers are reported to be marching on Peking.
