MOUSE PLAGUE
O'LOOM Y HE PORTS. Rec. April 21, 9.15 a,in. Sydney, April 21 Further gloomy reports come from the mouse infected country areas. The pest not only strips standing crops but climbs and destroys fruit and grape crops. The farmers arc afraid to plant wheat because the mice will destroy (he seed in the ground, ft is impossible to protect stored grain and food. A teamster left a bushel of feed in a bag overnight and found a quaking bushel of bloated mice next morning. Trapping and poisoning have little effect, while cats and dogs have waged war till their efforts have come to a standstill. As a set-off it is claimed thal the pest is doing good by destroying noxious weeds and robbing the nests of sparrows, which themselves are a pest in the grain districts.
