The farmers arc afraid to plant wheat because the mice will destroy (he seed in the ground, ft is impossible to protect stored grain and food. A teamster left a bushel of feed in a bag overnight and found a quaking bushel of bloated mice next morning. Trapping and poisoning have little effect, while cats and dogs have waged war till their efforts have come to a standstill. As a set-off it is claimed thal the pest is doing good by destroying noxious weeds and robbing the nests of sparrows, which themselves are a pest in the grain districts.
