KATIKATI NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the Katikati Road Board was held on Saturday afternoon. A legal opinion from the county’s solicitor was expected but no word was received from either the county or the solicitors re local affairs. By Gazette notice the Board went out of office on March 31st. A good deal of dissatisfaction exists in the district regarding the way in which the Board and ratepayers have been treated by the Council re the ratepayers. 1 he Board apd ratepayers were never consulted in the matter. The people want to know what is the matter— rates collected, March 31st., £212, outstanding £l4O with 10 per cent, penalty. A public meeting, convened by Mr W. J. Gray, was held on Saturday afternoon in the Show Buildings to arrange a reception to Sir William Herries and the Hon. J G. Coates. A good number ot settlers were present, Mr Kendall being in the chair. It was agreed to hold a luncheon at the hotel and deputations are to wait upon the Minister. Mr W. Taylor, chairman of the road board, and one of the oldest settlers in the district, will preside at the luncheon and introduce the deputations. It was also decided to invite Mr Poland to be present. The following deputations were arranged: — Cattle Dipping (Mr K. Morton). East Coast Railway (Mr Geo Alley) As many relumed soldiers as can are asked to be present at the function. The Ministerial party is expected to arrive hereon Anzac Day. The Anzac Day arrangements are well in hand Sir William Herries will unveil the G. Vi Stewart Memorial Slcne in the Uretara Domain. The Returned Soldiers held a meeting on Saturday night at,the hotel to arrange for Anzac Day. Mr T. L. Chapman was in the chair and Mr Arthur Johnston was elected secretary. It was arranged that a parade be held, march past and salute the flag, Roll of Honour to be called, and a short service to be held by local ministers. The ladies after-

wards to serve afternoon tea. All returned local men are requested to be present, and any returned men will be welcome. The first football meeting of the season was held on Saturday afternoon in the Show buildings, Mr Geo. Henry in the chair. The following officers were elected:— Patron* iMr M. A. Stewart ; President, Air Alf Walker, Secretary, Mr Wm Johnston. The Club will register in Waihi as before and two teams will be available.
