BAY OF PLENTY RUGBY UNION

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union was held at Whakatane on Saturday evening. Mr W. T. Parata presided and delegates were present from the Whakatane, Tauranga,Te Puke, Rotorua and Opotiki Rugby Unions. Messrs J. A. Jordan and J. Tanner reoresented the Tauranga Union. The annual report was read and showed a very successful season during 1921, The balance sheet was read and disclosed a substantial credit balance. General rules, and rules governing the Kusa'os’ Cup competition were discussed and adopted. Officers were elected for the coming year. Mr W. T. Parata was elected president and Mr J. Ruddy secretaryIt was decided that the Kusabs Cup competition he played as in former years. It was stated that great interest \\as being display ed and the prospects for keen competition for the tiophy were regarded as exceptionally bright. The fixtures are to be arranged at next meeting. The first game will be played at Taurangi as the latter Union aie the holders. Reference was made to the League movement in Tauranga. Ah the delegates spoke on the subject and it was stated that no League teams could be formed in the Bay of Plenty, outside .perhaps of Tauranga. Mr Parata stated he was in communication with the New South Wales Rugby football authorities regarding a visit to Australia by a Maori team, which he hopes will leave early in the season. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Bay of Plenty Union at Tauranga on Saturday, April 22.

No player at Whakatane was willing to j )in the League. Whakatane was made the executive centre for 1922. Mr W. T. ILrata was elected president and was presented with a gold pendant to mark the occasion of being made the first life member of the Union. He was also appointed delegate to the Wellington Conference of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The return matches this season will be against. Wanganui, Auckland and Poverty Bay. Complaint was made that the New Zealand Centre had not yet made the promised allowance for the Springboks match expenses at Rotorua.
