PUBLIC OPINION

RAILWAY MATTERS

(To the Editor) Sir,—Regarding the statement made by “Farmer,” in reference to myself in your paper of the 6th inst., I wish it to be made clear that Sir Wm, Herries had nothing whatever to do with having the statement made through your paper. I had no motive for doing so other than to let “Farmer” and the public know that there was no railway line or survey* authorised from Rotorua to Taupo—stated at a meeting of the Otumoetai Farmers’ Union some little time ago—which I thought they would be pleased to' know. I was glad to see the question of railway matters brought up at their meetings, and would like to see other branches take the matter up also. Wp don’t want a divided opinion on this matter. We want unity and perseverance. I do not know anything about the tale of Te Hira-u Rea. I think my actions in railway matters should speak for themselves. I still intend to keep going and I hope “Farmer” will baci< me up. —I am, etc, Thos. Tanner Tauranga, April 10, 1922.
