SUCCESSFUL MEETING

Greet'd, J. fcJavory, J. McDonald, Peebles, Linsell, W. Ansell and E, Brown. Fine but dull weather prevailed for the athletic sports meeting held ifi Mr F. Burt’s paddock. Mataia, yesterday. Tliere was a large attendance, patrons being present from Taijrauga, Tc- rihike, laneatua, Whakatane and surrounding districts. The Te Puke Brass Band under Baud master Wood, was in attendance, and rendered a musical programme, which was much appiociated. A refreshment stall was controlled by Mrs Pat tic, assisted by Mc&dames Brownlie, Peebles, Caverhill, Burl, Lynch, Culpan (2), Brown, and Ansell. r iho sport was of an interesting character. The fields were large and many keen finishes were witnessed. Results were as follows: MAIDEN RACE Moody J, Semmens 2. G. Gardiner finished first, but was disqualified, having previously won a race. HOP, STEP, and JUMP-G. Gardiner 1, Jacob 2. The winner covered 38ft. 2 A in. BOYS’ RACE-Marti 1, Henry E. 100 YARDS HANDICAP—G. Gardiner 1, Cairns 2, Peebles J. Eight started.
