ANZAC DAY

MEMORIAL SERVICE IN TOWN HALL Monday next, Anzac Day, be a close holiday, and, in accordance with the previous custom, a memorial service will be held in the morning in the town hall The Returned Soldiers will fall in on Cameron Road, opposite the school, at 10.15, and will march to the hall, via First Avenue, Devonport Road, Strand and Wharf Street. The service there will open with the hymn “ O God Our Help” followed by the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer, led by the Rev. J. W. Smyth. “ Days and Moments ” will follow, and then a prayer by Staff-Captain Moore. The Rev. E, A. McCutcheon will read a portion of Scripture and the Gloria from Mozart’s Twelfth Mass will follow, and then an address by Lieut.-Colonel Wilson. “ For All Thy Saints ” will then be sung, and Colonel Ward will give an address the service concluding with the singing of Kipling’s Recessional "Lest We Forget,” the Last Post, and the Benediction by the Rev. V. S. Mercer. The hymns will be lead by a combined choir under Mr F. W. Meikle. The day is also to be kept at Katikati, when the memorial gates, erected at the entrance to the Domain, will be formally opened by Mr C. E. Macmillan. POST OFFICE ARRANGEMENTS On the above mentioned day, Sunday hours will be observed in all branches of the local Post and Telegraph Office, namely ; Post Office The Post Office will be closed in all its branches. Telegraph Office The telegraph office will be open from 10 a.m to 10,30 a.m and from 5 p.m to 5*30 p.m., when double rates will be charged on all telegrams. Telephone Exchange The telephone exchange will be open from 9 a *m 1° to a - m an d from 5 p.m tu 6 p.m. Delivery of Correspondence On Saturday evening a delivery of correspondence, including registereds, will be made over the public counter between 7 p.m and 8 p.m. Despatch of Mails All mails usually closing on Monday, 25th inst., will be closed on Saturday, the 23rd, at 8 p.m., but supplementary mails will be made up on Monday morning at 8p m. A clearance of all pillar boxes will be made commencing at 7 p.m. There will be no delivery of letters by carriers on Monday.

Rec April 21 evening Hobart, April 21 The Australian Manufacturers’ Conference at Launceston adopted a resolution that steps be taken to bring all employers of labour in Australia into one federated body to enable them to speak with one voice when occasion demands. The mover of the resolution stated that the suggestion was made in view of the organisation launched by the big unions. Another delegate suggested that the proposed federation should act, not speak, and urged the method adopted by Germany, where seventy thousand volunteers had been enlisted to break the strikes.
