INSURRECTION IN INDIA

Cable Association Delhi, Feb 17 In reference to the insurrection in Tonk, a small feudatory State in the Province of Rajputana, official information has been suppressed, but the Press and private letters state that British troops were engaged, A cablegram sent from Delhi on the 13th instant said : “Revolution has broken out in Tonk. The despotism of the Sawab and the general conditions of life were such that most of the mass of the people made certain demands which the Sawab granted. He later placated the army with increased pay, and used the soldiers toprrest the leaders of the movement, causing further trouble. Latest reports show that an alarming state of affairs prevails. Pacification is impossible.
