PROPOSED CATTLE DIPS
Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, has telegraphed to the Tauranga County Council advising that the Council’s application for Government advance on account of erection of cattle dips will be looked into. Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister of Agriculture, advised that he would look into the same matter. The - ,£ communications were read at Fridays meeting of the_ County Council. Cr Hume thought if the Council had power they should .evy a tax to meet the cost of construction of cattle dips. The chairman said there was no provision to borrow. Cr Grant said the settlers of the Otamarakau and Pongakawa districts had agreed to finance the cost of dips ir. their areasIt appeared to him to be a good scheme. How could dairy cows be driven six or ten miles to dips ? * Cr Gilmore said he understood that dairy, cows could not be driven more than three miles to dips. The Chairman said the Council could not do anything till a further reply was received from the Ministers.
