The entertainment in aid of Holy Trinity Church Sunday School building funds, which was advertised to be held in the Town Hall to-morrow evening has been postponed till Monday next, owing to the inclement weather and the prevailing epidemic.

.Miss C. Tanner of the Auckland ! Training College hockey team has been selected as one cf the eleven to represent Auckland at the Dominion ladies' hockey tournament to be held at Gis borne towards the close of the present month. Mr F. W. Shortland, solicitor, of Tauranga, has extended bis operations to Te Puke, and will in future attend each sitting of the Magistrate's Court held there. A sitting of the Native Land Court opens at Rotorua tomorrow. The steamer Ngatiawa arrived here at 3.15 this morning and experienced a heavy sea -on the trip from Auckland. She sailed for Ohiwa and Opotiki at 4.30 a.m.

At the last sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Te Puke, Thomas Best, contractor, of Maketu sued Thomas Hawkin Smith, farmer, of Paengaroa, for £311. The claim was alleged breach of contract to milk on shares. The Magistrate, Mr W. G. K. Kenrick, heard part of the case and adjourned the'hearing till the 3rd prox. Mr Hookey of TeTuke, appeared for plaintiff, and Mr F. W. Shortland, of Tauranga, for defendant.

The New Zealand Loan and" Mercantile Agency Company will hold a clearing sale at Katikati on Friday next on account of Mr J, Lockington, when 73 head of cattle, 4 horses, farm implements, etc., will be submitted. The sale commences at noon. • The poundkeeper notifies that two heifer calves have been impounded from Cambridge Road. A brown gelding running on Mr Allen Thompson's land at Te Puna is to be sold on the 17th inst unless previously claimed and expenses paid.

The master of a scow that reached Auckland 911 Monday states that he encountered the gale which was experienced by the Te Teko —wrecked on Slipper Island. He. left Tauranga at I p.m. on Friday, and at 7 p.m. he lost his sails two miles north of Castle Rock. He then put about and stood away out toward the Alderman Islands and Slipper Island, clearing Slipper Island by three miles /by using a "leg of mutton" mainsail. In the morning the wind died away, and a steamer towed his vessel into Mercury Bay. He saw the Te r.eko about 3.30 or 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon a long way south-east of him. The weather came on thick, and nothing was seen of land until 10.30 next morning. The heaviest gale he experienced was at' 7.30 p.m. on Friday. He considers it was the fiercest gale ever known on the coast, but it lasted only three hours.

Mr D. Elliot, who has been stationed as stock Inspector at Tanranga for some years, has been transferred to Cambridge. He has bee n . succeeded at Tauranga by Mr M. W. Watt, nf the Department of Agriculture's staff at Auckland.

A- farewell was' given to Miss H. V. Blomquist recently bylhe scholars and teachers* of the Berhampore (Wellington) School. After an interesting function both children ana teachers presented her with tokens of their kind regard and appreciation of her services to the school. It was pointed out that all connected with the school deeply regretted her departure. The headmaster spoke in words of praise of her splendid influence and work during the whole time that she had been on the staff. Miss Blomquist left for England by the Arawa.

At last nights meeting of the Borough Council the Engineer, Mr Mandeno, submitted a proposal for increasing the charges for electric current for power purpose?. The matter w^s discussed at some length and then adjourned till the next meeting
