Monthly Meeting of Council

The ordinary monthly meeting | of the Taurnnga County Coiincil was held in the Coronation Hall on Friday last. Present: Crs H. Southey (chairman), C. Lally, I Vercoa" j. A. Ball, Colin McNau.^hton, j. M. Darragh, and TLoch head. Mr J. Kimber wrote asking for tin. increase on price of metalling contract at Kaimai, owing to higher prices oL horse hire and | labour. He also asked for a settlement of £21 15s, balance due ior extra carting and punting on the Greerton Road. — Cr Lochhcad moved : That Mr Kimber be paid ihe amount due. but that no increase in price be considered. —Seconded by Ci Lally "and carried. Mr H. P. Webber, Te Puke, wrote asking permission to take a* few yards of metal from quarry at Manoeka —Granted. Mr O. J. Hodge, Clerk to the rumu-Kaituua Drainage Board, wrote asking the Council for a .cheque for £50, towards the work of erecting the bridge over Ford and Williams' drain, where the drain cuts the main swamp. —It was resolved to reply that the sum of £5© will be forwarded as so;m as the Drainage Board completes their portion of the contract. Mr C. Bailey, Paengaroa, wrote complaining of damage to his property caused by the constant washing out of the approaches to a bridge near the Kaikokopu.— Referred to the supervisor to report upon. Mr L. P. Jensen, hon. secretary of the Omanawa Branch of the Farmers' Union, wrote advising he was instructed to ask the Council to apply to the Government for a grant of £400 for the Omajiawa Road. It was pointed out that the road Was too narrow, carried considerable traffic, and was greatly in need of improvement. He also requested the Council to apply for a grant of £100 to connect the "Omanawa and Ake Ake districts by a road above tli3 falls. This road would be a great convenience to the settlers and would shorten the distance from Omanawa Falls to Rotorua by 25 or 30 miles. He also asked when the Council intended to erect the watering trough, already authorised, at the foot of the hill near Mr Wade's house. —Referred -to the Chairman and Clerk.

Messrs C. H. Bridge and Son, wrote advising they are making a survey, and estimates and specifications for a road through Mr MacDougall's property, Ohinepanea, to give access to Mr Syke's, property, which is being subdivided. Information concerning the Council's requirements was asked for.—Referred to the supervisor to fnrnish a reply. The Hamilton Borough Council forwarded circular asking support of a proposal urging the Government to remove the import duty on cement.—On the motion of Cr Lally, seconded by Cr Lochhead, the proposal was endorsed. Mr T. H Smith. Maungarangi, wrote asking the Council's assistance for a right of road for entry on to his sections, as shown on plan submitted. He said if he could get a 30ft width of road it will be sufficient for his requirements. —Referred to the supervisor with power to act. The Waimairi County Council, Papanui, forwarded circular asking support of a resolution urging the Government to promote legislation to allow the Hospital Boards to borrow money for permanent buildings, and the Government to grant a subsidy on all money so raised. —Cr Lally moved : That the resolution be endorsed. —Seconded by Cr Lochhead and carried. Mr-S, Wright, Aongatcte, wrote asking the Council to take action iri the direction of compelling larm owners to remove the gates and fences that are erected between his land—Sections 197, 199, 201, Te Apata—and the main road. He also asked that thirds be spent in having the road improved. He said he was willing to do the work and would find team and plough free —Left in the hands of the clerk and supervisor to make inquiries and reply to Mr Wright. The Undersecretary of the Depaitment of Lands and Survey, Wellington, forwarded copy of a proclamation published in the N. Z. Gazette, proclaiming as a road th.c road line through Rangiuru No IA, under Sections 48 and 49, of the Native Land Amendment Act, 1913. —The Council decided j that the necessary steps be taken j to close the old road and sell it. Messrs Sharp, 'iudhope, and Wilson, Tauranga, forwarded legal opinion concerning the maintenance of No 3 Road, Te Puke, and cost ot. supply of water to trough on the same road — The Council authorised the Te Puke Riding members to interview the Town Board on the ; matter. I Messrs Hodge and Ralfe, Te Puke, wrote as follows: "We x have been consulted by Mr Thos/ Harmon, the lessee of Paengaroa North A No 2, with reference to the storm water that the Council has turned on to his land, thereby causing damage." He states that water has been turned on to his land which did not naturally flow there, and has instructed us to request you to take the ndtessary steps to prevent a continuance of the nuisance. We shall be pleased to hear whether you are prepared to do this, failing which, we must take such step:, as we consider advisable to protect our client's interests." —Received.
