The report that the British Government has made a contract for a supply of nickle for coinage is denied. Twenty-four deaths are reported from Thursday Island, Only two of the victims are whites. A Sydney message to-day says there is no change in the marine engineers' strike. There are intense privations in northern towns in Queensland, owing to the shortage of flour. An offer of £2CO per acres for a farm of 100 acres in Taranaki has been refused.
