Londou, July 17, 5 30 p m A French communique states: "South of the Marue the Germans attacked last night, with fresh forces north of Staguan, Chapelle, and Montbosou, and succeeded in penetrating .La Bnudonnerie. The battle continues bitterly on the wooded slopes immediately south of these points. Further east, despite very lively attacks, we held .the enemy on the southern edge of Bouquigny and Nesle woods. The Germans also attempted a powerful effoit in the direction of Mouvoisia, which they seized, bub a counterattack drove them out. Between the Marne and Rh.eimg violent fight-, ing is proceeding at Courton Wcod.^. The enemy attack in the region of Vrigny completely failed. East of Rheims local enemy attempts were resultle&s, uctably in the region of Pruuay. The Germans, who are endeavouring to lenew the assaults at Beaumout, sustained a sanguinary defeat. We everywhere entirely maintained our positions."
