OBITUARY.

Mrs Margaret Lemon.

We regret to record the passing away of one of Tauranga's oldest identities in the person of Mra Margaret Lemon, whose association witb the town dated back to the troublous times of the sixties and who passed away at 1u.30 last night at the advanced age of 94. The deceased lady was burn at Dublin in October, 1824, aud in 1850 was married in New York. Her busbaad, Mr Geo. Lemon, pre-deceased her some eighteen years ago, having died at Tauranga on July 19tb. 1899. Shortly after their marriage Mr and Mrs Lemon left New York for Melbourne, and from there they came to Auckland by the "Kitty Simpson," coming on to Tauranga ira?m£*S3jteiy arid landing here in 1866— fsome two years after, the Gate Pa ffight. There were eight children of |the marriage—-five sons and three daughters. All of the daughters and |ne of the sans are deal, the remaining sonß being Mr Geo. Lem in of Paengaroa, Mr Wm. Lemon of Omanawa, Mr T. Lemon of Te Puke and Mr Albert Lemon of Hamilton. The late Mrs' Lemon went through many trying experiences in the earlier days of Tauranga. Always of a retiring disposition she yet held the esteem of a wide circle of friends for her many kindly qualities. For many years she had been a semi-invalid and has latterly been confined tv her bed. In her death the now rapidly thinning band of cur earlist settlers comes appreciably nearer vanishing point. The community generally will learn of Mrs Lemon's death with genuiue regret and will extend to her sons the sheerest sympathy at the loss of their aged mother. . •
