The Executive Council has decided that the law must take its course in the case of Frederick Bermier, convicted of tho murder of his wife at Kaungoroa, in the Wanganui district. After the conviction a plea was put in by counsel that the deed was committed during-a period of insanity, but the Executive decided that thore was no evidence of ruadues?. Bonnier is in Wellington gaol and will be hung at 8 o'clock to-morrow morning.
Wellington advices states that the ballot of the Agricultural and Pastoral Union oh the proposal to link up with the Australian Workers' Union resulted: For, 1,325; against, 450. The election of. oificers resulted: President, Arthur Cock, Christchuch, 785; Arthur King, Tirnaru, 584; J. Townshend, Wanganui, 474. Secretary—-C. Grayndler, J. 465; M. Laracy, 389. Executive (14 nominations) — William Boone, Christchurch, 1,131; A. Middlemias, Gore, 1,045; J. Mcc, Wellington, 1,023; b'. Borehaas, Durtedin, 966; C. Baldwin, Christcburch, 917; R. Register, Blenheim, 837. The positions cf the last-named three may bs affected By returns still to come, but their return is considered ta be certain.
