Sir Eric Geddei, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated that the Admiralty confirmed the finding of the Court of Inquiry that the escorting vessels did their beat to protect the Scandinavian convoy on December 7. The escort fought in a proper and seamanlike manner and the covering force took all possible steps to come to their assistance and prevent the escape of the enemy. The Board was of cpiniou that the circumstances preventing the covering force arriving in time was unpreventable. Admiral Beatty'e disposition was the best possible with the available forces.
