KATIKATI.

[From Our Correspondent]

A. & P..ASSOCIATION. The hnraal meeting of our A. & P. Association, convened by circular, was held in the Hall on Saturday week at 2 p.m., but inasmuch as the President's report and balance-s&cet was printed at tLe Times Office I need not here tefes to it. further than to cor.gratulate the President and the worthy members of the Executive upon the great success that has resulted from their work during the past year. The meetir.g, though thoroughly representative, was not as large aawhat it should have -been. Amongst those present I reatillect the late President, Mr M. P. Walsh, Messra Walter Huase, M. Morton. Ed: Earl, N Blomquist, J. Baines, Dunston (Aongatete), the members of the Road Boaid, who were atteiding their ordiaar.v montbly meeting at 2.30 p.m. in the Board room Bdjoining the Hall, Mr C. T. Rums, Rev. 11. Rattray, and several others.

After adoption of the report and statement of accounts a long discussion ensued on the question of postponing tbe show this year, as owing to the war all the young men _ t have heen cleared out of Katikati, but it was eventually decided to keep the flag flying, and the meeting was ad journed fora fortnight to fix the date and enable tbe Secretary to ascertain tbe dates of adjoining Associations in order that the dates should not clash.

The election of officers was then made. Mr Vesey Stewart wss unanimously re-elected patron. For the election of President seme delay occurred, "fie opposition resting primarily with Mr Wel3*r, who,, we all regret to state, firmly declined to be nominated, due to the many demands on hia time. Mr V^alter Hume and Mr Kenneth Morton's nominations icet with similar results, but eventually Mr Morton consented, aud wa* unanimously elected. In the laboiioua portion of Secretary Mr Norman Bloniquist declined nomination on the very legitimate grounds that his work at the Dairy Factory demanded his entire time, and that he only accepted office last year on public grounds to fill up a gap, due to the late Secretary's departure from Katikati at a most inopportune time for the Association. Mr Bainea, the owner of the bee farm ot Katikut', finally, after some persuasion, consented to act, and as he has had considerable experience in business of this nature at Palmerston North, previous to his advent at Katikati, we may rest assured that the business of the Association will be conducted in a thoroughly business litse manner, which i 8 the key to success in all matters of this nature.

In referring to our late President I may assign to him the distinction of being the best fanner in Katikati. I was struck last year by his crop of potatoes. Instead of following the slip 3hod methods of New Zealand farmingthe head and foot ridges of bis potato crop, after moulding up, were sown with turnips in the good Old Country style, while this year he has about an acre of potatoes facing the main road in lovely blosnom, free from blight, the drills as straight as an arrow and a sight worthy to be photographed foe our illustrated papers.

In urging on ray friends to keep up our show to its annually increasing records of previous years, I feel guilty of a certain amount cf selfishness in the matter, as I have been kindly not expected to take part in the laborious work of the Committee, who in the preparation of. their show list met at 7 p.m. arid did not conclude business till neai midnight. But nothing can succeed witfeout labour and strict attention to details. Our shows afford a grand advertisement for " Katfkati. Strangers are attracted to spend a pleasant day's outing, while the kindly genial feeling that animate-the great majority of tUe Katikati people enables ever visitor to feel himself or herself to be at horns. In referring to (his phase ut the business, I need hßtdly refer to the couviction that the won en of Katikati will again this year renew their work of the last, aot only in providing the wants of the inner man, but also at the same time ir furthering their exertions on behalf of the Red Cross with such a liberal response to a noble cause. ROAD BOARD.

At tue monthly meeting of the Road Bourd on Saturday week very little business was submitted. A resolution was adopted congratulating the Auckland Railways Lesgue on their exertions to provide a gang of men tp prosecute earth works on the Waihi Athenree section, which, with the aaeietance of the Waitii Borough Council, it likely to prove successful, and fully juatfied the personal and local bodies' subscriptions to the League. The Board, sitting us the Katikati Domain Board, dealt with a large «umber of tenders far grazing rights on a three years' haseVThat of Mr James Delaney, cf Waihi, fceiiiß the highest, was accepted and ia over 100 per cent higher than that paid by the tenant during the preceding terra. Mr Dunstor, of Waihi, \^as appointed Han. Ranger. PUBLIC WORKS. On the EUiniites a £ for £ subsidy of £100 sppuarj towards extension of our etone jetty wharf at Anzac Bay, but during the war we propose tq husband our resources to provide the means .to avail ourselves of t^ia subsidy, which will enable craft of far larger tonnage to land passengers at every state of tha tide, besides affording additional attractons to campers and visitors in fishing for -schnapper, gurnet end rock cod in deep water, these fish abounding in great quantities in that portion of the-Bay.
