A deputation from the Tauranga Harbour Board will visit Waihi on Thursday n?xt for the purpose of conferring with the Waihi Borough Oouucii in regard to the prDposal to extend the Tauranga Harbour district. Mr Grace, Chairman of the Ohinemuri County Council and Member for the Waitekauri Biding, will represent tbe Ohinemuri County at the conferference. The Tauranga Harbour Board deputation will consist of Messrs G V Stewart, T Lochhead, H Southey C Lowe (secretary) and H A Sharp (solicitor). *

A sitting of the Native Land Court will beheld at Tauranga on the 24th inst. A total of 167 cases are scheduled for hearing. These include applications for partitions, exchanges, and injunctions, assessment of compensation payable to owners of native land taken under the Public Works Act, and applications for survey charging orders and for defined portions of land in liquidation of survey fees. At the completion of busin«ss the Court will adjourn to Te Puke.

Mr G Gardiner, of Matakana Island, has received a communication from Hon. J Allen, Minister o! Defence, intimating that the former's son, Sergeant George Gardiner, Has been awarded the Cross of Karageorge, JFirse Class, for gallaotrr on the Field of action. This cross is awarded by the King of Perbia, and Bergeant Gardiner is to be cengratalated on hayirg gained such a coveted distinction. He is well-known in Tauranga, and was. one of the best opponents of Bugby in the County. He waa born at Bangiwaea, and is only 19 years of age. He left New Zealaud with the first Maori Contingent, and took part in the fighting at Gallipoli, thence proceeding to France, where he has rendered splendid service. On February 3 last, in a letter to his father, written in the field, Sergeant Gardiner says : «* lam just aa happy as ever. I am treated the beet and never wish for better treatment. This life will do me." He also mentions that they were experiencing aome dreadful weathersrain and snow.

Speaking at the last meeting of the County Council, Mr Gray intimated that it would be necessary at an early date to re-deck the bridge over the Parawnenumea River in the Maketu Riding. eJ

Mr Herries also wired to the Board on Tuesday intimating that the Minister of Marine was absent from Wellington and had not yet given his decision. Guinness, L. Norris, C. F. Biggs, P. Kingdon. W. Davoren and the Secretary, Mr J. Crichton. Tbe treasurer, Mr Oliver, presented a balance sheet of the Boxing Day sports, showing a credit balance of £1 14s 9J, but all subscriptions had not been paid. It mas resolved that the collectors be asked to endeavour to collect all outstanding subscriptions by the 30th inst.; if not all in then the trustees to have power to . operate on the Post Office Savings Bank account. It was also resolved that members be asked to contribute 2s 6d each foT the purpose of entertaining Private E, Reeve, any eurplus to be reserved for similar purposes in future. The final arrangements were left in"; the hands of Mr Oliver. Accounts totalling £1 7s were passed for payment.

The Tauranga Athletic Club committee at its meeting on Friday night passed a vote of condolence and sympathy with Mr and Mrs Oullen in the loss of their son Private T P CuHen, who was recently killed in France. Deceased took an active interest in athletics, and was for some years a member of the committee of the Tauranga Athletic Club.

The prizes won by competitors at the school sports on Easter Monday cau be obtained any time after to-day from the Secretary, Mr J Crichton.

The Minister of Internal Affairs inserts a notice in to-day's issue, to the effect that the shooting season for native and imported game opens on May 1 and closes on July 31. Game must not be killed on Mayor Island, or on lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game.
