Mr Hughes to Attend Paris Conference.
London, April 10.
Mr >squith (Premier) stated in the House of Commons that Mr Bonar Law (Secretary of State for the Colonies) had forwarded a request to Mr Hughes (Australian Premier) that he should go to Paris as one of the representatives of the Imperial Government. Mr Asquith said he hoped that Mr Hughes would be able to accept the invitation.
Mr Snowden (Labour Member for Blackburn) asked whether Mr Hughes would go as the lepresentative of Australian democracy, because every Labour uaper in Australia had repudiated his attitude.
Mr Asquith replied that Mr Hughes would go as the representative of the Imperial Government.
Mr hughes was subsequently interviewed and said he had accepted the offer.

A letter, published in the Daily Telegraph, signed by' the Duchesses of Somerset, Saint Albans, and many society ladies, supporting Mr Hughes" visit to Paris, says:—''Perhaps Mr Hughes is the only man in the front lank expressing the nation's sentiment upon the sinister, treacherous, Ma^ chiavelian and economic conspiracy, whereby Germany sought to destroy trie communities under the British flag."
