Great Competition.

|Wellingtbn, Jan 20. The High Comraissioer's cable, dated London, January 18, is as follows:— "There is great competition for aIJ wool, especially crossbred. The supply of New Zialand clip is very small, and there is not sufficient of it offered to-day to test the market. Valves are a penny per pound higher than the closing ra*;es of the last sale. The upward movement is vety likely to continue. There are 17,800 bales of JNew Zealand wool catalogued.

Estimated values given by the High Commissioner in a cablegram on the last wool sales wero as fellow: — Superior, merinos Is (3d to la 9d; medium merinos, Is 2i to Is sd; inferior merinos, Hd to Is Id; fine crossbred?, all grades, Is 7d to Is 9ci; medium crossbreds, all grades, Is 5J to It 8d; coarse crossbreds, all grddep, la 3d to la (3d.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable from its London office; "Meriros par to 5 per cent dearer. Slipes sto 7i per cer.t dearer, greasy crossbreds not represented."
