DESTRUCTION OF THE LUSITANIA.
German Reply to America.
Rec Jan 8. 12.53 p.m. i Washington, Jan 1. : Germany has replied relative to the sinking of the Lusitania and agrees to pay compensation for the American lives lost. Germany contends that the destruction of the Lusitarna was an act of reprisal against the British blockade, and gives an assurance that the commanders of submarines in the Mediterranean will rot torpedo pri-vately-owned vessels without /warning. It is unlikely that America will protest against the sinking of the , Persia unless there is proof that she , wes torpedoed.
