ATTACK FROM SEA AND LAND.
Allies Co-operate and Wreck German Trenches.
Kec Oct 1, 10 40 pm Paris, Oct 1 A communique states : - Our heavy artillery in Belgium, sup ported by the British fleet iv an action against the coast batteries, exploded several mines outside Beauoraiguns, wrecking the German trenches. ° We gained ground northward of Meiuil and further east between Hill 199, northward of Massiges, Villesurtourbo and Cernay. We took a number of prisoners. At the hitter point the enemy counter-attacked and regained a footing on a work named Lodetaite. A second and more violent counterattack was delivered iv the same sector and repulsed with heavy enemy losses. The field heavy guns captured since tho /25th inst on the Champagne front total 121. Successful Air Raid. A squadron of aeroplanes dropped seventy-two bombs on the Guiguicourt railway station. The bombs were apparently cttectivo. The squadron returned safely.
