VIOLENT FIGHTING ROUND DVINSK.
Germans Exterminated in Marshy Ground. Rec Sept 28, 11.10 p.m. Petrograd, Sept 27. lighting of an extraordinary violent character occurred rcus-.d Dvinsk. Our cavalry defeated a strong enemy coiunni near Lake Tchiebiry. Strong enemy artillery forced the Rus-ians back to the lake district, which is a veritable labyrinth. The Russians tired or» the enemy in marshy ground, the Germans being surrounded on three sidss. Half the Germans were exterminated and the remainder were taken prisoners, those captured including three comp/ete companies of Guards. Artillery was £iso taken. Austrians Retreat. Reports from the Austrian front state that the Russians reached Kovel. Tiie Austrians hive evacuated Brody and suspended fortification works in other towns. In the Violhynia area, during their retreat, the Austrians threw much artillery, machine guns, ammunition and fcrjgn into the river Stryi.
