Bayonet Again Gets to Work.
Paris, Sept 27 After a spasm of firiug the guns quietened and tlie bayonet got to work in th« German trenches, for the first time for months.
The French used picked troops who fought like demons and turned out the Germans in spito of Yon F-\h beck's furious resistance.
Ihe enemy threw hundreds of suffocating shells aud aerial torpedoes. The Uritish attack against Prince Rupprecht's forces is proceeding to the left of Lens and La Bassee on ihe mam road directed towards the north of Lens.
An army service driver states that the British artillery crumpled the enemy's front trenches, but when the British reached llnm the Germans advanced to their communication trrwclies and sanguinary hand to hand fights look place in the trenches The bayonet did excellent work. The British gained a footing in many sections of the enemy's fugnt. Prince Hupprecht's troops fought well. Many Bavarians were taken prisoners.
