A MAN MURDERED.

Wife Charged With Crime.

Auckland, Sept 27. As the result of investigations at Raraararaa on Saturday and yesterday, Chief-Detective MacMahon and Ser-geant-Detective Hollia formally charged Mra Amelia Perry, agej 31 years, with the murder of her husband, and placed her under arrost. Up to that stage the somewhat extraordinary feature of the case had been the composed manner in which Mrs Perry had gone about her work. There was little in her demeanour to suggest that a tragedy had so recently taken place beneath her rcof.

When Mrs Perry was arrested pitiful fcenes were enacted. The detectives entered the house and charged the woman with the commission of the crime, telling her she must accompany them to Auckand, under arrest. She accepted the news quietly and proceeded to attire herself for the journey. Meanwhile the chidren "were told their mother waa going away. They failed to realise the situation at first and the seven elder boys and girls bade her goodbye calmly enough. Mrs Perry was allowed to bring her baby girl and two-year-old boy to Auckland with her, and having dre?sed thsm she entered a motorcar—which had been driven up to Ihe back door—carrying her infant, At this stage her stoicism gave way. She was weeping bs she took her seat and the other children clustered round the car with inquiring looks. The seriousness of what was going on waa evidently beginning to dawn upon them. When the motor car drive off they all walked crestfallen and sad into their shattered home snd gathering round the eldest girl, Mary, twelve years old, they stocd there crying bitterly.

The Eccused was brought to Auckland by train at 5.20 p.m. yesterday and lodged for the night in the police cells, her two young children being placed in care of the matron. Auckland, Sept 27. At the police court to-day Amelia Perry was charged with murder and remanded for eight days.
