BOWLING.

Opening of Season.

The official opening of the Tauranga Bowling Club took place on the Domain yesterday afternoon in M>e presence of a large gathering of bowlers and friends, the assemblage including many ladies. Mr J. Torrance, President of the Club, j'r a brief speech, welcomed tbt visitors, and apologised to the visiting bowlers for the short notice that had been given them to attend the opening, which was solely on account of the* Club being without a green-keeper until a week ago. He congratulated the Club upon having procured the services of Mr Knowles as greenkeeper for the coining season. He then called upon Mrs Torrance to throw up the jack and declared the season opc-n. During the afternoon refreshments were provided by Mesdaraes; Torrance, 1 nnes and Griffiths. ; The green was in very good order, although the rain that bad fallen during the morning deprived it of what, under fine weather conditions, wouki. have been a very keen gieen.
