* The public school closed to-day for ' the usual one week's Michaelmas holidays.

A special meeting of tlio Tauracga Railway League was held in the Foresters' Hall on Tuesday evening last. Colonel Ward presided and explained that the meeting had been called with a view to enlisting further interest in the work of the League. There was only a small attendance, and nothing was done beyond having read several letters written by Colonel Ward to Minister and others regarding railway matters.

Rugb/ enthusiasts are reminded that the final match of the season will be played on the domain to-morrow afternoon between the representatives of tho Tauranga and Te Puke Unions.
