Strong Enemy Patrol Defeated*

The War Office reports that sixty Britishers and a hundred Indian iufautry surprised a strong enemy patrol on Tuesday, eigh^ oiiles southward of Matau, iiast Africa. A sharp fight ensued and the enemy tied, leaving oue white aud thirty-oue natives dead, besides wounded. Our casualties were three dead and eight wounded. Rifles aud ammunition were captured.
