GARDEN PARTY AND FLOWER SHOW.

The garden party and Mower show held yesterday in the Presbyterian i Church giounds under the auspices of I the Young Women's Bible Class of I St. Peter's Church was largely at- | tendeJ. There was a five display of iloweis, I fruit, vegetables, and iudustrial goods in the parish hall, while located under shady trees outside were wortc, toy, and sweets stalls, the various landholders doinj. good business. A ping pong table enabled many patrons to indulge in this favourite game, while a shooting gallery permitted others to test their marksmanship. Nail-driv-ing competitions exoited much interest, the winners being Mrs Torrance and Mrs Thomson .Refreshments were dispensed and were much appreciated. All the exhibits became fch propei ty of the promoters and at 4.30 these were disposed of by Dutch auction by Mr Torrauce, who wielded the hammer in the absence of Mr llobbius. Uue of the attractive features of the gathering was the Maypole Dauce, in which nineteen girls took part. Attired in pretty costumes,.set oil" with numerous ribbons of red, white, and blue, the participants went through the movemeuts of the dance with precision aud grace, and saug 11 Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue." The performance was indeed creditable to the girls and their teacher Miss Carleton. The music was skilfully played by Mrs Torrance. At the conclusion the children were grceued with very heavty applause. A number of gramophone selections were rendered at intervals, the instrument being kindly lent for the occasion by Mr Cecil Guinness. The members of the Bible Class Committee were Missts j England, Fallwell (2), Mark, Maltby (2), Wallis, Bobbins (2), Robinson, Ferguson, and Carleton. Specially valuable work was accomplished by the honorary secretary, Miss Robbius, while the ladies' Guild Committee also rendered much assistance in connection with the function and- took charge of some of the stalls. The appreciation of St. Peter's congregation was voiced during the afternoon by Rev. A. C. Wedderapoou, who returned thanks to the assemblage for their presence, to all who had rendered assistance, and to the Young Women's Bible Class for their efforts in promoting the function. Altogether the sum of about £20 was realised from all sources

The swards were made by the following judges:—Mr Tebbs, flowers, vegetables and fruit ; Mrs Bewes aud Miss Allely, preserves" and cookery ; Mr J. Bird, sweets;' Mrs Kobinsou and Miss Maxwell, knitting; Mr G Malt by, photography ; Mrs Kobbius. aud Mrs Maltby, children's classes. The following is a list of prizewinners :— Floral.
