A semi-official statement s;iys it was practically impossible for a Gorman submarine to have been responsible for the destruction of the Hesperian According to German war plans there wus no submarine iv the locality on September 4 . and moreover the ship was hit close to the stern. The inference is that the explosion was due to a mine and not a torpedo.
