TAURANGA RAILWAY LEAGUE.

| A meeting of the Committee of the j above was held in the Borough Council j Chambers at 4 p.m. on Monday. Col. I G. A. Ward, President, in the chair. Messrs T. Tanner and J. G. Creen, Canvassing Committee, presented a report showing subscriptions arid donation?, new members enrolled, j etc., the aumber of the latter being j • 52, and the aimnut collected £S 12s 6d. Ihe Committee stated that as yet | they had had practically no op^crtu- \ I nity to canvass country settlors, but j intended to take the first opportunity to do so. 'Jhe Committee wa3 heartily thanked for its efforts, and comment was made that country settlers should certainly support the League as heartily as the townsfolk, as their interests were vitally concerned with railway construction. j The following resolutions were carried unommouslv after full discussion : I.—Proposed by Col. Ward andseconded by His Worship the Mayor (C. E. " Macmillan, Esq).—That Government be strongly urged to commence work vigorously at once, on the East Coast railway on the western fide of Tauranga Harbour and to pot in hand formation work on the whole authorised section as far as the Wairoa River, by small contracts where suitable. 2.^-Proposed by Col. Ward and seconded by Mr J. G Green—That Government be asked to pass a further Railways Authorization Bill this session, to include the section of the East Coast Railway between the ends of the already authorised sections at Wairoa River and Athenree respectively. In the opinion of the Tauranga Railway League the authorization of this final section is now fully warranted and should be no longer delayed, no authorization on the Waihi-Tauranga section having taken place since 1911. Proposed by Mr T. Tanner and seconded by Mr H. T. Castaing— That Government be asked to place on tho Estimates for the current year, to be brought down this session of Parlia ment, a sum of not less than cne hundred thousand pounds (£100,000), for construction of the factions of the East Coast Railway between Tauranga and Waihi. 4.—Proposed by Mr Adams and seconded by Mr Green—That a circular be drafted by the Secretary and the mover and sent to country settlers asking their membership and support, and that a general meeting of members be held in the Foresters' Hall at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept 21, to discuss the advisability of sending a delegation to waiton Government re railway matters, and other general business." s.—Proposed by Mr Castaing and seconded by Mr Macmillan — That copies of the first three resolutions be Jorwarded, with covering letters, to the Prime Minister, the Minister for Public Works, and the Hon. W. H. Herries.
