GERMANS PROGRESSING IN POLISH MARSHES.
tot-den Build Railway to Assist Advance. Rec'Sept 9, 10.50 p.m. Petrograd, Sept 9. Toe Germans are progressing in the Peliibmui-es and ate using railways. Tiwyconetructed railways on sleepers, bid on narrow roaaways sufficiently firm to allow trains to travel at a speed of ien miles an hour. The enemy is draining the marshes behind the advancing troops to prevent ftver breaking uut. \.T_e Germans are being guided through the marshes by men who have evidently lived in and studied the k distriet for years. Masked Traitors Meet Horrible Death.
Similar actions were noticeable elsewhere. During the march through the Coorland swamps mysterious masked men led tbe Germans. In one case a German company was annihilated. The Russians sought out the masked guides and found they had died in
. horrible torture. When the masks ' were flung off the faces of tbe dead guides were found to be a mass of raw horned flejb. When the guides weore mortally wounded tbe Germans poured acid on their faces, fearing that .neighbours would recognise and discover tbe nest of traitors.
