There is now on viov in Mr F II Hammond's shop a massive threedecker caku, which has been -enerous.y donßtpdbvMrllammondtothe G.r,nW Committee, as a prize for one ot •tbo evening competitions, ihe cake is a *cm of the confectioners art, and there should be keen competition for its possession. The mode of disposal has not yet been decided on, but it is quite safe to assume that Mr Hammond's j^t will result in adding a very substantial sum to the proceeds of tbe Carnival.

A team has also entered from the ttiinu Club, Kotorua. The General Committee will meet tonight at the Borough Council Chambers at T.oO, when tinal arrangements for the Carnival will be made A full attendance is therefore derired. The week's festivities will start in the Opera House to morrow night. The , doors will open at 7 o'clock and the official opening will take jdace at 7 do To night the Famous Maori Choir will give a performance in the Opera J louse. An opportunify to hear these noted performers is not often presented, aud there will no doubt bo a full houso lo greet them. The special train which leaves Te Puke at 0 a.m. oa Wednesday will reach the Mount about '.) -15, and launches will be in waiting to convoy the passengers to town promptly.
