WAIHI LEIDERTAFEL CONCERT

The above society gave one of their enjoyable concerts on Monday evenlug. 'ike inusic-loving people of Tauranga showed their appreciation of the secretary's effort by turning up in large numbers, the Opera House being Jilled in all parts. The choir, 20 btrong, uuder their able conductor, Mr F. E. Midgely, upheld their reputation in their usual manner and gave a good rendition of the part songs on the pro gramme. The spirited part tong "On the March," the opening number, gave the audience a tafete of the good things to follow. "The Wateli on the Rhine/ '•The Sabbath Call,' 7 "The Merry Frogs" each elicited rounds of' applause. Tho "Merry Frogs" pleased the audience to such an extent that an encore was not to be denied, tiie Liedertafel responding with a setting of 4iThe Land o' the Leal."

The second part of the programme opened with a fine rendition of tiie "Alaieh of the Men of Harleeh," followed by "The Daar Little Shamrock," "The Gongs are Beating," and "The Soldier's Farewell." The soloisia were Mrs 1\ JS. Budd, Messrs Orchard (Auckland Liedertafel), Jessop, Morgan, and Keven, each of whom had to submit to an encore. Mr Orchard was in good voice aud his efforts were much appreciated. Mrs Budd was especially happy in all her numbers, having to respond with encores, Mr Horace Jessop especially pleased the audience and was heard to great advantage, both in his solos and duets with Mr Keven. The latter also had to respond to an encore for his solo number. Mr Evan Morgan, the genial secretary of the Society, and an old favourite with Tauranga people, especially pleased the audience, and his rendition of ''A Wee. Hoc an Doris," brougLt the house down. Miss Maggie Morgan, the Society's able accompanist, deserves a special word of praise for her work and was ably assisted by the conductor, MrF. E. Midgley and Mrs Budd. A memorable musical treat was brought to an end by the singing of the National Anthem, the members of the Liedertafel closing with .their usual tribute "Good Might, Ladies." The members % oi the Society woro loud in their praise of the good time enjoyed during their brie? visit and are looking forward to another visit at no distant date.
