Merriuiau moved the deletion of the banishment clause. He declared there was no foundation for the deportation of the strike leader's, except the prejudice of bhe Government, who asked the House to join it in committing a crime. The lawlessness of the deported men to a eertahi extent was condoned by the lawlessness of the Government. The clause eonfinning the deportation and banishment was carrier! by 72 votes to 15.
