Riding. j The Chairman welcomed Mr Lally to | the Council in a few well chosen j words, the latter suitably replying. j —Traffic Bridge.— j.The Public Works Defartm.nt, VVel--1 lington, wrote acknowledging receipt | of letter intimating that the Council is rot prepared to enter into any a^rrement- regsrding the suggested traffic bridge _.cror.3 Tauranga Harbour. —Wharere Culvert. — Mr J. Caw.c, Pongakawa, wrote i drawing attention to the unsound state I of the Wharere Culvert. He stated j that in the evert of the Council de- | ciding to put a new one in, en the same site and at a level to carry off tee drainage water, he will undertake to cut the ditch through the road to the-depth and widili required by the s.pervisor. Mr Cawte also said that if the work be done before the milking season comes on it would cause less inconvenience. A wire wa* read stating that Mr Dick will give four days on the culvert. After hearing the Supervisor ar.d Cr Matthews en the subject it was decided to authorise the supervisor to furnish sn estimate and report an to I the benefit which the proposed work j will confer to the road and properties in the vicinity. —Poeke Quarry. — Me.srs Sharp and Tudhopc wrote re Poeke Quarry. They stated a3 there ! are about one hundred natives interested in this land and a certificate of title is issued, the Public Works Act, 1909, does not assist; ell natives must be served with notice, and we do not see how this can befdone." After hearing the Supervisor it was decided to communicate with Judge Browne on the matter. — Deviations. — » Messrs Sharp and ludhope notified that Scantlebury's and Ornokoroa deviations are now gazetted. They also asked for a cheque for Mr Munro's fencing. It was resolved to pay Mr Munro _£3o 15s for fencing. The Clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr Tollemache re Scantlebury's deviation. -~Slaughterhouse Licenses.-- r The Department of Agriculture forwarded certificates for slaughterhouse licenses duly approved for i.sue to Messrs Lemon and Washer, Te Puke ; Johnston Bro?., Katikati. —The Late Chairman. — The Rotorua County Council forwarded a resolution expressing its j regretat th*i loss sustained by the bounty of Taurangi by the sudden leath of Mr D. J. McEwen, and requested that its sympathy be conveyed, to the late genTeman's relatives. — Resolved that the request be complied with. Mrs McEwen ancPfamily wrote acknowledging the message of sympathy received from the Council. — Smallpox.— Dr Stuart wrote intimating that he had notified the Public Health authorities of a case of smallpox at Mata-pihi.---Received. —Water for Stock. — The Rotorua County Council forwarded accounts for the material i supplied for the Mangorewa trough, £14 Os lOd, and for the cattle wateringcrossing in the same gorga f^r contribution of £2 10s. —Already dealt with by the Clerk. —Storage Shed.— Mr T. Ballantine, The Mount, wrote enquiring if tenders were to be called for erection of ahed for storage of tools, etc.—-It was slated that the shed had been already constructed. —Government Grant. — The Fublic Works Department forwarded authorities for expenditure on following works: Maketu to Te Ngae, £250; Graham Road, £100; Papamoa No. 2 Road, £50. -~Te Puke Town Board.— Mr O. J. Hodge, clerk to the Te Puke Town Board, wrote intimating that a suL'Committee of the Board, consisting of Messrs Palmer, King and Montgomery, wa_ appointed to wait on the Council with regard to the relations between the Council and the Board. Cr. Lemon moved-That the Chairman, Clerk, Solicitor, Overseer, and the mover be appointed a committee to arrange with the Te Puke Town j Board as to liabilities, and report to the Council at next meeting.— Seconded by Cr. Lally and carried. —Motor -Vehicles. — The 11. M. Trade Commissioner, Wellington, forwarded returna of registration of motor cars and cycles as supplied by the local authorities of the L'ominion from May, 1012, to April, 1913. | —Auckland Exhibition.— The Secretary of the Auckland Exhibition wrote in reference to the county subscribing towards a South Auckland court fund.—Received. —Shifting a Pence. — Mr 11. J. Day, Otumoetai, wrote asking permission to shift his fence for about seven chai.js along Rua's Road, eight feet into the road, to enable him to clean up the boundary and later plant a live hedgy,— Resolved that the apppcaticn be granted on the usual conditions. —Access to Experimental Farm. — The Secretary of the Department of Agriculture wrote stating that advice | has been received to the eirect that | the Council proposes -to clo-?e the | road now' running east and west j alongside the southern boundary of | the Department's farm at Tauranga. | The letter stated: 4*l shall he glad to j know whether this is th<3 case, and if i to. what steps your Council intends to

Partridge, Te Puke, wrote statin? that wbiWt engaged in his employment of breaking stones on the main road, near the Te Puke saleyards, under the County Council, on July S, his right eye was injured by being fctru.k by a piece if the metal he was breaking. The-eye became inflamed and has continued to be so to such a degree thai he liks not been able to work since the occur, ence. A certificate from Dr Young was also forwarded —It was decided to for* ard the claim to the insurance company holding the Council's ritk. —An Exchange Qjesti.n.— Mr T. 11. Cox wicte re exchanging of roadi between Messrs Barke's and J. Grant's farm?. He said he wished the exchange to be made as early as possible, as he has f'one work en the new deviation to the extent of £65. He taid Mr Barko objects to the exchange of road*, but Mr i_arke gave him, Mr Cox, his word of honour (hat he had no objection to exchanging roads and helped to make the road in P.e firs t place.—After discussion it was decided to r.fer the matter to the VVaimapu Separate Rate Committee. —A VVaimapu Improvement.— Mr 11. 11. Celmson, engineer, forwarded statement of account to August 4 of expenditure on VVaimapu \ Road, &nd estimated further outlay i to fini.-h laying metal now broker. Total cost, £200 12s (Id. Some metal could be Liid to advantage on the hill leading to this road. Mr Clemson said he regretted that owing to pressure of business he is not able to supervise any further work on road,'. —It was decickd that the expenditure, cf the balance of money available be left in the lands of the supervisor, and that the Chairman arrange with Mr Clemson re his account. —A Te Puna Road.— Mr A. W. Snndgrass waited on the Council and said he desired the extension of the road leading to his property at Te Puna. He estimated the cost at £40 or £50. Cr. Spence said there was a Governme.r.t £ram of JEIOO (i'l for £\) for a bridge and the extension asked for. I After discussion it wa. resolved to ( ask the Tc Puna Sep-rato Rate Com- | mitcee to expedite the matter and ascertain if it is prepared to avail itself of the Government subsidy. Mr Snodgrass asked that a sum of £15 paid to the Council by him in j connection with the last contract, be J credited to him as h subsidy towards the extension asked f.r. —Tne matter was deferred. -Gorse. — U was decided that the ksEce of the hospital reserve ba notified to clear gorse from the road frontage. ANCHORAGE FOR LAINCHI>\ o A petition signed by fourteen boat- | owners was presented by Mr T. Stuart to the Harbour Board at its meeting on Wednesday. The petitioners prayed the BoJ-rd to reserve an area in which launches can lie at anchor free of intrusion by larger craft; same to he gazetted; an annual charge of 10s for ea.h mooring to be collected by j the Board; location cf area to be on a line, exact position defined later, south ! frrm Town Wharf, commencing from J the north end of Mr Wood's shed to j tfi2 outer coiner of Rat Island; owners to supp'-y their own moorings, to be approved by the Harbourmaster. Mr Robertshavv, Collector of Customs, stated he thought such an anchorage reserve would b3 a great eonveniet cc to the launch owners and is a thing to ba desired. The Harbourmaster, in his report, said he should like the Board to favourably consider the petition of owners of small craft. He proposed to buoy off the area and put up buacons en the beach; south line of area running east in line of Mr P. Alhly's house or thereabouts. He also addressed the Board on the matter, and gave particulars of the damage recently sustained by a launch through being fouled by a large vessel. In the - Auckland harb-Gur a special area was allotted to the small vessels. After discussion, Cr. Adams proposed that the matter be referred to the Executive Committee tJ report upon.—Seconded by Mr Southey. Mr Gill spoke in favour of the j petition. He thought it was light to make a special area for the anchorage of small vessels, and that a fee be charged, He also suggested that the members of the Board should make a special trip round the harbour so as to become conversant with its requirements. Mr Stewart concurred. Ihe Harbour master offered to place hia launch at the disposal of the Board in making a trip as suggested by Mr Gill. The motion was put and carried.
